Antoine Fuqua’s biopic Michael, has came to the big screen! This musical biographical drama film follows the early life of America singer Micheal Jackson, covering the period from his involvement in the Jackson 5 in the 1960’s.
There have been a lot of mixed reviews about the biopic so to further provide perspective, here is mine: While full of energy, I believe this was more of a tribute concert than a truly complete story of the artist himself. The most intriguing part of this movie though was for sure that his real life nephew played Michael and did a stunning job. He captures his voice, dance style, and stage presence so well that some scenes really feel like watching Michael live. However the movie has also gotten a lot of backlash for avoiding the most controversial parts of Michael Jackson’s life. Many people think that the directors were so focused on his fame that they forgot his personal struggles and his life on the inside of fame.
Even though there were some noticeable flaws in the making of this movie, Micheal succeeds as entertainment. The choreography, soundtrack, costumes, and concert scenes create so much excitement especially for people who have followed the man through life and death. It reminds audiences why Micheal Jackson became one of the most influential performers in music history.
In the end, I did think that the directors and producers had very good intentions but after hearing about some of the other stories of his life, I do think that they missed a few key details other than his sole occupation. Emotionally though I became a big Micheal Jackson fan.
