Each year, our Art Club visits the Butler Institute of American Art, where the students are given personalized tours of the multitude of art exhibits. Chaperoned by our very own art teacher, Mrs. Pagley, the field trip is a daylong outing where students interested in art are offered the opportunity to learn more about the historic arts of our area.
The Butler Institute is a localized art museum which offers free entry to everyone. Inside the building is like a submersion into the past, with each room showcasing a different century, and the popular art styles of said era. The museum itself was created after the founder’s, Joseph G. Butler, Jr., home burned down, destroying a vast majority of the art that he kept on his own. After this tragedy, he dedicated his life to providing a safe place for art to reside.
The museum is kind enough to make arrangements for our school each and every year in order to have a myriad of tour guides available for our students. The students are split into a few separate groups and given tours that vary based on their guide, giving every group a different view of the art exhibits
This month, the museum had a special display room for Black History Month, along with giving specific art pieces throughout the museum spotlight cards to bring representation to the black artists who created them and shared them with the museum.
