Blind and Beautiful
Retinitis Pigmentosa is a rare, inherited degenerative eye disease that causes severe vision impairment. The symptoms often occur in childhood. Symptoms include decreased vision at night or low light areas. Motivational Speaker and Fashion Activist, Molly Burke, is a proud advocate for the blind community. Burke was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at a young age, and would further lose her vision completely at age 14. She had always had a passion for certain styles, playful colors, and fashion overall. Losing her sight was not an obstacle between her, and her love for fashion. Burke explains that not being able to see her outfit or makeup does not change her enjoyment of fashion. Burke is known for her colorful wardrobe, stylish outfits, and superlative home-decor. Experiencing everyday life with a disability can be filled with discrimination. Burke shares how the negativity should be pushed aside, and to focus more on educating society more about the blind community.
