Baseball Still Going Strong in the Winter

The Mohawk baseball team has been hard at work, starting to prepare for the 2019 season. Winter/off-season workouts have began for the warriors beginning since thanksgiving break. The workouts are 2 to 3 times a week, and include grades 9th through 12th.The workouts provide strength training and hitting/fielding.The team has been working to gain strength in the weight room, through Coach M’s Florida State baseball lifting routine, given to him by current Cincinnati Red John Sansone. The team is focusing on staying healthy by using the weight room, as the team has dealt with injuries last season. A long with lifting, the new addition of hitting Coach Eric Verdi has implemented a hitting program working on timing and balance. He is also working with the catchers and outfielders. There is more to the workouts than just drills, as Coach M is recording data from the Zepp Hitting monitor. He records swing speed, hand speed, exist velo, and launch angle. These are all recorded, and used for reference to look back later on to see improvement. Fielding includes group specific work by position, such as infielders with infielders and the same goes for outfield. There is also measurements for fielding, such as throwing velocity and timed transfers. The warriors are looking to improve off last years record of 1-15, and are on the right track to do that with the work of the players and renovated coaching staff.
