Applying to college can be a stressful experience. Many questions may run through your head, such as : “When should I do it? Where should I apply? Do I have to write an essay?” Luckily for you, I have applied to many colleges so I may be able to help! A lot of colleges have rolling admission, which just means that they’re always accepting people. With that being said, if you are planning to attend a college the fall after you graduate high school, you should apply anywhere from June – December the year before you graduate. You should apply to anywhere you think would be a good fit for you, it can’t hurt applying, even if you don’t get accepted. As for the essay, many colleges don’t require it, but it may still be good to write. I know when I was visiting colleges and I asked one of the admissions counselors if it would be beneficial to write an essay, she told me that if it came down to me and another student and one of us had an essay, they were more likely to choose that person that wrote the essay because it shows that they put time and effort into their application. Don’t stress about the application process!
