5 Facts About Our First President

George Washington was born in Virginia on February 22nd, 1732. As you probably already know, he was the first president of the United States! In honor of George Washington we have a holiday for him called President’s Day, which lands on February 15th this year. If George Washington was alive today he would be 285 years old! To celebrate George Washington this year I have decided to share with you, what I find to be, some of the most interesting and little known facts about him! To start off we have a nice heartwarming piece of information that Washington was a dog lover, he was given the nickname “ Father of the American Foxhound” and kept more than 30 of the dogs that he once bred as hunting dogs. Our second interesting fact is that George Washington’s first love was actually his best friend’s wife. Her name was Sally Fairfax and described as a dark eyed beauty. Third, we have quite an interesting piece of information considering George was the President of the United States, was that he only had a grade-school education. Washington attended school only to the early age of 11. Next, we have the fact that the 1st President didn’t have a middle name! Middle names weren’t a popular practice until the 19th century which explains why such a famous person only received a first and last title. Lastly, we know that Washington’s hair was all real! Unlike most of his time he did not wear a wig and had to wear his hair in a ponytail when need be. Before doing some digging online, I never knew any of these facts and I’m surprised I haven’t heard them before! Washington seemed to make quite an interesting first president.
