Retirement – Mr. Mioni

Mr. Mioni was a beloved history teacher at Mohawk for 32 years and before that he assisted in coaching the basketball team. While Mr. Mioni moved to Philadelphia briefly where he coached a small college basketball team for three years. Mr. Mioni then returned to Mohawk where he began teaching and became the head coach of the basketball team for ten years.  He has enjoyed his students and is definitely going to miss the kids but he is also going to miss his friends, his colleges, most of whom have already retired. While he was here he taught Tenth Grade US2, Eighth Grade Civics, Seventh Grade History and Mr. Mioni’s personal favorite World Religions. Since he started here the school has definitely changed from the push on testing that has recently been increasingly more stressed to the appearance of cell phones and the lack of conversation between classmates. The school, however, isn’t the only thing that has changed, Mr. Mioni has changed as well. He says that “I have learned to pull back on the throttle and play my cards closer to my basket instead of wearing my heart on my sleeve.” and to whomever takes over for him he would like tell them “to be gracious and to a keep a strong hold to the professionalism and of who we are”.  After he leaves Mohawk Mr. Mioni plans to spend his time playing golf, hunting, fishing, doing a little work helping out with a landscaping crew and playing with his brand new grandson.
