California Mudslides

Disaster has struck again in California. Last year a total of 9,054 fires burned 1,381,405 acres of forest down in California due to how dry the climate had become now, in 2018, mudslides destroy the earth. A 15-minute downpour on January 9th seems to be what started all of these mudslides. The debris from all of the forest fires got swept up in the rain and headed downhill destroying everything in its path. As of January 16th, 20 people have been confirmed dead and 3 people are still missing. The latest confirmed death is Pinit Sutthithepa and his 2-year-old daughter, Lydia, is missing. The other two people who are still missing are John Cantin, 17 and Faviola Benitez Calderon, 28. The highway has been closed because the lanes are obstructed with mud, rocks and trees. During the mudslides more than 400 homes were damaged and roughly 65 homes were destroyed. Videos have been posted online showing the devastating effects of the mudslides. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y28O3X6wtOU
