Every fall, when the air turns crisp and the leaves start to change, new flavors come around. For some, the season doesn’t truly begin until their first sip of a pumpkin spice latte, but for others, nothing beats the comfort of a steaming mug of spiced cider.
Apple cider has a long history in American tradition. Pressed from local, fresh-picked apples, cider has been a staple of fall harvest festivals for centuries. In the US, the cider business grows every year, and for some farmers, that’s strictly how they make their money.
However, the pumpkin spice craze traces back to 2003, when Starbucks released the pumpkin spice latte. Ever scenes that it has become a cultural phenomenon and has made everything pumpkin. Even dog treats now have pumpkin spiced treats. With how the drink is able to make people feel so warm and cozy, and really is the taste of fall.
This is an ongoing trend at on social media, to the point where people have created “#teamapplecider” and “#teampumpkinspice.” There has been a huge debate, and I think there will be for many years to come. So, what team do you choose?
