On Friday, February 21st, Mohawk High School students and teachers took on the Pittsburgh Polar Plunge at Acrisure Stadium. This event is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics where people brave the cold in support. The organization helps Mohawk’s Unified Bocce Team by providing them training and more.
What is the Polar Plunge? This is an event located at various places where you jump into freezing water. This may not sound enjoyable, but many people participate. This is because the Plunge supports Special Olympics and the raised proceeds help provide sports training and competition for the athletes. This event was organized by Mohawk Alumnus, Andrew Fee.
Only being the third year contributing to this cause, Mohawk students and staff raised $4,500 for the Special Olympics by doing the plunge. 7th grader Gianna Germanoski raised the most money at $640. Other students raised over $200 such as sophomore Audrina Cox who raised $380, junior Natalie King raised $292, junior Morgan Gabriel raised $220, and senior Trevor Dudzenski raised $200.
Do you want to donate? At the same time next year this event will be held again!
