Mohawk High School was in need of a new Spanish teacher while Mrs. DeGarmo, is on maternity leave. While she’s away, new Spanish teacher Anne Sopher is filling in for her position. During an interview with Sopher, she expressed how she feels about her position and her new students. “I’m excited to be a Spanish teacher at Mohawk since I’m from around here. It’s nice to be back in a familiar kind of school,” said Sopher. Although she’s surrounded by a familiar environment, her experience so far has been deemed surprising since she has multiple classes of new students who she gets along with very well. “I’ve never taught middle school before so that was a new age group to deal with and I really like them, so I was presently surprised to get those kinds of kids,” she said. Out of all the subjects she could’ve taught, Sopher chose Spanish because of how her experience was in her Spanish classes. “I had a really good Spanish teacher in high school and she made the class really enjoyable and I always liked how I felt in her class so I wanted to do the same thing,” she said. Mohawk is happy to welcome Anne Sopher into the building as their Spanish teacher.
