Virtual Olé 5k
On September 27, 2021, Mohawk’s Spanish Club participated in the 13th Annual Olé 5k Benefit race. Although they had to participate virtually again this year, that did not hinder their spirits. Lead by long-time Spanish teacher Cynthia LeClaire and newcomer Dana Brooks, the kids lapped the track until it was time for tacos!
The Olé 5k Benefit race raises money for The Anna Seethaler Hospital in Oaxaca, Mexico. This nonprofit organization supports a nonprofit hospital, as well as multiple charitable partners that provide opportunity to impoverished and marginalized communities in Oaxaca. Each student participant donated twenty dollars towards the cause and received a commemorative blue t-shirt. Thanks to all of the sponsors, donors, and volunteers, in-person and online, the organization was able to raise $45,500 in net proceeds that will be used to support the work in Oaxaca. The 14th Annual Olé 5k Benefit race is planned for October 8, 2022 and the Mohawk Spanish Club plans on continuing the tradition by participating.
