Spring Concert
On May 9th, 2018 at 7 P.M. Mohawk’s Spring concert started with a bang. The Senior High Band lead the charge with three songs each one more powerful than the last. The jazz band kept with the swing of things with three songs of their own. Larissa Butch was up next and she performed an original piece called “Mercedes and Rice Crispy Treats” with her guitar teacher flooring the audience. Up next was the treble choir who performed three college level songs with beautiful intonation and vowels. When senior high choir started from their seats with a Swahili piece and followed it up with a Spanish piece and a song from the hit Broadway show Hamilton leaving the crowd speechless. At this point in the show it was time to announce the seniors who received awards for their dedication and leadership within the band or choir. Kylee Barger won the John Philip Sousa Award, Larissa Butch won the Patrick S. Gilmore award, Geoli Yeager won the National Choral Award and, McKinley Banney won the Marine Corp Award. Then, while trying not to cry, the seniors sang their last piece together “Peace Like a River”. This concert sadly also doubled as a final goodbye to Mrs. Graziani, the choir director, who is resigning after this year. Mr.Zeh, the band director, gave a heart felt speech for her bring himself and the chior to tears. Mr. Parrot then took over announcing that he had a surprise and four students came forward to sing a song from Mrs. G’s last musical here called “Boys and Girls” and was performed by Molly Fitzsimmons, Morgan Allwine, Donovan Rubante, and Samuel Lewis. ”Salute to America’s Finest” was the final song put on that night giving thanks to anyone who has ever served in the military. When all was said and done this concert was about as good as they get.
