Win or Play Hoops

The Mohawk Varsity football team traveled to East Allegheny High School to take on the Wildcats in what was both team’s first playoff game in over 10 years. As tensions were high and pregame nervousness settled in, the Warriors launched the ball off the tee and into the air on the opening kickoff. Mohawk had high hopes for making a defensive stop. However, East Allegheny scored very quickly and made the score 7-0. The Warriors responded with a touchdown of their own, with the addition of a two-point conversion. Up 8-7, the momentum was surely on their side. Defensive struggles on the ensuing possession led to yet another Wildcat touchdown. Entering halftime, the score had advanced to 14-14. After a few sips of water and a motivating locker room speech from Coach McCutcheon, the Warriors were ready to roll. Unfortunately, the Mohawk offense was unable to gain much ground and the defense couldn’t keep up with EASH’s high-speed offense. The final score was 28-14, ending Mohawk’s history-making season. For seniors Devon Yarletts, Kasey McConahy, Jimmy Argiro, Damien Nowicki, Dylan Janiels, Montana Pape, and Kody Kirkwood, it was the last time suiting up in shoulder pads and helmets.
